BCL Grow: The Cross — 1 Timothy 1:15
1 Timothy 1:15 (Redemption)
The saying is trustworthy and deserving of full acceptance, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners, of whom I am the foremost. — 1 Timothy 1:15
"The cross stands high above the options of men and to that cross all opinions must come at last for judgment. A shallow and worldly leadership would modify the cross to please the entertainment-mad saintlings who will have their fun even within the very sanctuary; but to do so is to court spiritual disaster and risk the anger the Lamb turned Lion.” — A.W. Tozer, The Radical Cross, p. 15.
Steps to Take
1. Ponder: The cross is a serious and wonderful thing. The sacrifice of God for our sake is striking. How do we in our daily lives and weekly worship show reverence and awe to so great a God?
2. Remember: The cross reminds us that we are sinners, need a savior, need the Spirit for growth, have righteousness and salvation only through Christ’s work, and in no way can save ourselves. What other things does the cross remind us of?
3. Consider: Do we live as if we are totally relying on Jesus Christ, or do we live as if we still must accomplish our salvation? The cross says that those who believe in Chris for salvation are declared righteous before God and loved. Strive to see yourself in this new reality every single day.
