Luke 11:12-13 (Adoption)

Bible Passage

“What father among you, if his son asks for a fish, will instead of a fish give him a serpent; If you then, who are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will the heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him!” — Luke 11:12-13

“…it is only when we see that God rules his creation as a kind and loving Father that we will be moved to delight in his providence. We might acknowledge that the rule of some heavenly policeman was just, but we could never take delight in his regime as we can delight in the tender care of a father.” — Michael Reeves, Delighting in the Trinity, p. 24.

Steps to Take

1. Ponder: What does a good father do? Does thinking of God as our Father make him more relatable than simply thinking of him as our Creator and Ruler?

2. Remember: People may have a bad relationship with their human fathers as they are sinful and can be cruel toward their children, but this is not what “Father” is meant to be. God is a loving Father throughout all eternity.

3. Rejoice: Whether you had a wonderful father or a poor one, your heavenly Father is your perfect rest and peace. Read his word, treasure learning how he loves you on a daily basis, and see his caring hand in your daily activities.
