BCL Grow: Perseverance — Psalm 6:10
Psalm 6:10 (Perseverance)
The LORD heeds my plea, the LORD accepts my prayer. — Psalm 6:10
“In the face of your sin, do not flee into darkness, but instead to the foot of the cross. When it seems as though you will never find God’s favor because your sin is too great, find solace and comfort in the steadfast love of the Lord, which has been supremely revealed in Christ. Rejoice that Christ was greatly troubled in His soul so you do not have to carry that unbearable burden. And in the face of your sin, the prospects of God’s just wrath, and even before your enemies, know that the Lord has heard your plea and will answer your prayer.” — Songs of a Suffering King: the Grand Christ Hymn of Psalms 1-8, J. V. Fesko, p. 89.
Steps to Take
1. Ponder: As you think about your own sins and mourn them with a troubled soul, consider the forgiveness you have because of the love of Christ Jesus who gave himself for you by suffering and dying on the cross.
2. Remember: Though you are called to mortify your sins and strive against them struggling to live a life of obedience in gratitude for what Christ has done for us, remember that it is God working in you, conforming you to the image of Christ Jesus. He is sanctifying you through suffering even as Christ himself suffered for us.
3. Rejoice: Be joyful that we have a savior, Christ Jesus, whose steadfast love never fails. Rejoice that when we confess our sins he is faithful to forgive them. He hears our prayers and comforts our souls.
