BCL Grow: Practicing Hospitality – 1 Peter 4:8-9
1 Peter 4:8-9 (Church)
Above all, keep loving one another earnestly, since love covers a multitude of sins. Show hospitality to one another without grumbling. — 1 Peter 4:8-9
“The church aims to be a family, and nothing characterizes a family as much as maintaining fellowship and eating meals together. Extending hospitality to others in the church, however, is far more than sharing food; it is sharing love and life, especially with those who may otherwise be deprived of it. The church needs to practice such hospitality.” — Joel R. Beeke, A Faithful Church Member, p. 27.
Steps to Take
1. Ponder: What are some of the ways we show love for one another by sharing a meal together in our homes?
2. Remember: Our identity as followers of Christ Jesus means we are family who are called to love each other in tangible ways, both big and small. Hospitality puts our care for each other into enjoyable practice.
3. Rejoice: In Christ we are not alone—we also have each other to share in our sorrows and our joys. Rejoice that we can gather together with love to enjoy each other and the good gifts God graciously provides in the ordinary moments of life.
