BCL Grow: Dearly Loved — Colossians 3:12-14
Colossians 3:12-14 (Grace)
Therefore, as God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience. Bear with each other and forgive one another if any of you has a grievance against someone. Forgive as the Lord forgave you. And over all these virtues put on love, which binds them all together in perfect unity. — Colossians 3:12-14
“To me Paul was saying nothing more than, ‘Since you are Christians, act like Christians.’ I saw his emphasis to be solely on Christian duty, the traits of Christ’s character I should seek after. But that day the Holy Spirit caused my mind to focus on the two words ‘dearly loved.’ It was as if He said to me, ‘Jerry, you are feeling sorry for yourself; but the truth is, you are dearly loved by God.’ Dearly loved by God.” — Jerry Bridges, Transforming Grace: Living Confidently in God’s Unfailing Love, pp. 239-240.
3 Steps to Take
Consider: To be dearly loved is a precious thing, and especially so when the Giver of such love is our Lord. In what ways does God show his unfathomable love to his people? How should we to respond to his love?
Know: While we were still sinners God loved us by giving his only Son, Christ Jesus, to die for us in order to reconcile us to God. Therefore, as he loves us, so we ought to always seek to love one another, forgive others, encourage one another, and care for each other.
Remember: Nothing can separate you from the love of God in Christ Jesus (Rom. 8:39). Be gratefully joyful that through faith in Christ Jesus you are secure and dearly loved by God.
