BCL Grow: Ruler of All — Mark 4:41
Mark 4:41 (Gospel)
And they were filled with great fear and said to one another, “Who then is this, that even the wind and the sea obey him?” — Mark 4:41
“It is good for all men to have clear views of he Lord Jesus Christ’s power. Let the sinner know that the merciful Saviour to who he is urged to flee and in who he is invited to trust is nothing less than the Almighty God, and has power over all flesh to give eternal life (Rev. 1:8; John 17:2).” — J. C. Ryle, Holiness: Its Nature, Hindrances, Difficulties and Roots, p. 228.
Steps to Take
1. Reflect: Christ Jesus is God incarnate—God with us. He has sent his Spirit as a guarantee of our inheritance of eternal life. What are some of the ways God comforts us and strengthens our faith?
2. Remember: In the midst of a trials and suffering, fear can easily overwhelm us. We begin to doubt whether or not God loves us; we question whether he is truly on our side. Remember that it is our Lord and Savior Christ Jesus who rules over all. As he suffered, so he is also using our suffering to build up our faith in him. He will complete the work he has begun in every believer.
3. Rejoice: God’s word calls us to rejoice even in suffering. Surely that is not easy. Yet, while we suffer we know that our Savior has also suffered—he knows what it is like. Rejoice that it is Almighty God who in Christ Jesus sympathizes with our weakness and loves us beyond measure. Rejoice that it is God himself who builds up and strengthens our faith.
