BCL Grow: God's Gift — Romans 5:20-21
Romans 5:20-21 (Grace)
But where sin increased, grace abounded all the more, so that, as sin reigned in death, grace also might reign through righteousness leading to eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord. — Romans 5:20-21
“Do you begin to get the picture? Are you realizing that God’s forgiveness is complete and irreversible? Have you started to understand that regardless of how ‘bad’ you’ve been or how many times you’ve committed the same sin, God completely and freely forgives you because of Christ? Do you see that, because God has already dealt with your sins in Christ, you do not have to do penance or fulfill some probationary term before God can bless you or use you again?” — Jerry Bridges, Transforming Grace: Living Confidently in God’s Unfailing Love, p. 46.
Steps to Take
1. Ponder: What does it mean in your life today—and forever—that you are saved by God’s grace in Christ, not your works?
2. Remember: If we focus our heart and mind on God’s saving grace, self-pride and self-condemnation will flee from us—they will be replaced with an attitude of humble gratitude and a desire to love and honor our Savior in all things.
3. Rejoice: There is no more condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus. God has set you free from the power of sin. Rejoice that we have a merciful, loving, and gracious God who gave his Son so that we may glorify and enjoy him forever.
