BCL Grow: Glory of God – John 17:4-5
John 17:4-5 (God)
“I glorified you on earth, having accomplished the work that you gave me to do. And now, Father, glorify me in your own presence with the glory that I had with you before the world existed.” — John 17:4-5
“Not only did the Father glorify the Son, but the Son also glorified the Father, and this especially through his obedience. ‘I have brought you glory on earth,’ Jesus prayed, ‘by finishing the work you gave me to do.’” — David Vandrunen, God’s Glory Alone: The Majestic Heart of Christian Faith and Life, p. 76.
Steps to Take
1. Ponder: How did Christ’s perfect obedience on earth glorify the Father? Why could only Jesus fulfill God’s law?
2. Remember: Christ humbled himself, taking on a human body, and accomplished the work sinful humans were unable to do. Because he obeyed, those who believe in him and in his work enjoy reconciliation and peace with God.
3. Rejoice: Rejoice that Christ Jesus, for a time, gave up his own glory in order to glorify God by saving his people. This is love beyond measure.
