BCL Grow: Obedience — Romans 6:22
Romans 6:22 (Sanctification)
But now that you have been set free from sin and have become slaves of God, the fruit you get leads to sanctification and its end, eternal life. — Romans 6:22
“No past privilege, nor all past privileges together; no past obedience, nor fruitfulness in service, can ever substitute for present obedience to the Word of God. Great blessings only bring present fruitfulness when they are met with continuing obedience.” — Sinclair B. Ferguson, Man Overboard! The Story of Jonah, p. 8.
Steps to Take
1. Think: Humans like to be their own bosses. Central to the Christian faith is the fact that Christ is Lord and Savior, and love for him means obedience to him. We are slaves to Christ. How often do you think of Jesus as your saving Lord?
2. Know: The Scriptures call each Christian to obedience. Yet this obedience is not one that saves us. Rather, this obedience is the overflowing of a grateful heart for salvation already bestowed upon us. It is the fruit of a changed heart.
3. Reflect: Are there areas where obedience and love to Christ is waning? Ask your heavenly Father to reveal from his Word what is pleasing to him and to give you the strength by his Spirit to love him and his ways.
