BCL Grow: In God's Presence — Psalm 14:2
Psalm 14:2 (God)
The LORD looks down from heaven on the children of man, to see if there are any who understand, who seek after God.. — Psalm 14:2
“Beloved, are you entering some overshadowing cloud trembling and apprehensive? Fear not! Thy Lord is in it, and a Father’s voice of love shall speak to thee from out of its veiling shadows, saying, ‘When thou passest through the waters, I will be with thee: when thou walkest through the fire, thou shalt not be burned; neither shall the flame kindle upon thee. For I am the LORD thy God, the Holy One of Israel, thy Saviour’ (Isa. 43:2-3).” — Octavius Winslow, Help Heavenward, p. 63.
Steps to Take
1. Questions: What does spiritual lethargy look like? How often are you conscious of God’s holy presence? How do you feel knowing that a holy God is present in every moment of your life?
2. Consider: God is present at all times, but often we can live as if he is absent, being only Sunday Christians. Sometimes the thought of God being ever present may make us sad as we realize how far short we fall of his holy standard. We must remember though that God is our Father and is ever ready to forgive his repentant children, and that we are always loved by him as we belong to Christ.
3. Discover: As you go through your day remember that your heavenly Father is with you and loves you. Even the trying situations you find yourself in are from his good and perfect hand. The Holy Spirit dwells within you, enabling you to more and more live a life of holiness, and when you struggle, forgiveness and grace are freely bestowed upon you because of Jesus’ sacrifice. Let God’s presence be a comfort to you, knowing you are his beloved child.
