BCL Grow: Divine Light — John 15:26
John 15:26 (Revelation)
“But when the Helper comes, whom I will send to you from the Father, the Spirit of truth, who proceeds from the Father, he will bear witness about me.” — John 15:26
“The Holy Spirit bears witness to himself not only through the Word (in the self-attestation of the Scripture as the Word of God) but also with the Word, that is He opens blind eyes to the divine light that shines in the Scriptures.” — Herman N. Ridderbos, Redemptive History and the New Testament Scriptures, p. 9.
Steps to Take
1. Reflect: Consider the work of the Holy Spirit in revealing God’s word to you. How is it that some people know the Bible is God’s Word and others reject it?
2. Consider: God has graciously given his word to us in writing—the Bible consisting of the Old and the New Testaments. But God has not left us alone to figure it out—he has graciously sent his Son, Jesus Christ, to clearly reveal God and to teach us. He has also sent his Holy Spirit to our hearts to testify to the truth of the Gospel of Christ—to open our blind eyes and deaf ears to hear and to know God’s word.
3. Rejoice: Apart from the work of the Holy Spirit, the Bible might seem like any other ancient book even though its heavenliness, its harmony of all the parts, and the beauty of its style testify that it is the Word of God. Rejoice that we have the Bible to read and hear. Thank God that he has given his only Son, our Lord Jesus Christ, and his Holy Spirit to illumine and teach our hearts and minds through and with his word.
