BCL Grow: The Spirit of His Son — Galatians 4:6
Galatians 4:6 (God)
And because you are sons, God has sent the Spirit of his Son into our hearts, crying, “Abba! Father!” — Galatians 4:6
“If we believe the gospel, we believe more about the Holy Spirit than simply that he is God and that he is eternal. The Bible tells us that the Holy Spirit is given to each believer. If I believe in Christ, then the Holy Spirit has been given ‘to me personally.’” — Starr Meade, Comforting Hearts; Teaching Minds, p. 110.
Steps to Take
1. Ask: What is the work of the Holy Spirit in your life? (For some related Bible verses, see John 14:26; Rom. 5:5; 8:26; Gal. 5:22-23; Eph. 4:30). What are some ways the Spirit comforts believers?
2. Know: The Heidelberg Catechism, question and answer 35, teaches from Scripture that the Holy Spirit, with the Father and the Son, is eternal God (Matt. 28:19). He is given to believers to make them share in Christ and all his benefits (Gal 3:14), and to comfort God’s people (Acts 9:31). By faith in Jesus Christ believers have the Holy Spirit who will stay with them forever (John 14:16-17).
3. Rejoice: Believers have the Holy Spirit to encourage and strengthen them. Rejoice that you are not alone, but the Spirit of God watches over you, comforts you, and teaches you through God’s word. The giver of life, he assures you of eternal life in Christ Jesus.
