Ephesians 2:6 (Redemption)

Bible Passage

…and raised us up with him and seated us with him in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus. — Ephesians 2:6

“The saints are set in heavenly places, and are given heavenly dignity, heavenly privileges, and heavenly prerogatives; yea, and they themselves may be said to be in heavenly places though their bodies are upon the earth. Their souls are in heavenly places; their conversation is in heaven. They are the saints of the high God and they are set in high places.” — Jeremiah Burroughs, A Treatise on Earthly-Mindedness, p. 111.

Steps to Take

1. Ask: What does it mean to be seated with Christ in heavenly places? How do we experience this right now?

2. Know: Christ ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of God (Heb. 12:2; 1 Pet. 3:22). Whoever believes in Christ has been united to him by the Holy Spirit. It is God’s Spirit who makes a person spiritually alive in Christ Jesus and raises them heavenward to our true and eternal home. The clearest picture of this reality is in worship on each Lord’s Day when we come together as the body of Christ to sing God’s praises, to hear his word proclaimed, and to be with Christ Jesus by the power of his Spirit.

3. Rejoice: Rejoice that God has sent his Spirit to raise us heavenward in new life through faith in Jesus Christ. Each Lord’s Day worship God with joy and thanksgiving that your home has been prepared for you and that in worship you have been given the privilege of seeing and experiencing your eternal rest.
