BCL Grow: Escaping Temptation — 1 Corinthians 10:13
1 Corinthians 10:13 (Perseverance)
No temptation has overtaken you that is not common to man. God is faithful, and he will not let you be tempted beyond your ability, but with the temptation he will also provide the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it. — 1 Corinthians 10:13
“Sometimes a stormy wind of temptation blows from hell, and shakes the branches in Christ, the true vine: but their union with him is their security; moved they may be—but removed they never can be. The Lord ‘will with the temptation, also make a way of escape,’ 1 Cor. 10:13.” — Thomas Boston, Human Nature In Its Fourfold State, p. 277.
Steps to Take
1. Reflect: Has there been a time when you have been tempted to sin, and God gave you various opportunities to turn away from it? What did you do? Did you keep heading down the wrong path or run the other way and escape?
2. Know: Even when we fall to temptation, believers are still God’s children. God has given his people to Christ Jesus and nothing can take them away from him.
3. Act: When tempted, turn to God in prayer and cry out to him to keep you from the temptation. Turn away from it and turn to God, and he will deliver you and preserve you. Remain steadfast in your faith.
