BCL Grow: Happiness — Deuteronomy 33:29
Deuteronomy 33:29a (Grace)
Happy are you, O Israel! Who is like you,
a people saved by the Lord,
the shield of your help,
and the sword of your triumph! — Deuteronomy 33:29a
“The plain truth is that without Christ, there is no happiness in this world. Only Christ can give the gift of the eternal Comforter. He is the sun; without him, we never feel warm.” — J.C. Ryle., Happiness, p. 39.
Steps to Take
1. Consider: What do you think happiness looks like? Is it smiles and laughter? Perhaps you think happiness comes from attaining something you have wanted for a long time. How do people acquire happiness?
2. Remember: The world promises happiness through many material and earthly pleasures and advantages; yet, these things are never secure or lasting. True happiness cannot be gained by transient things. The Bible tells us that true happiness is found in a loving relationship with the Creator. Adam and Eve lost this relationship for their children because of their sin, and the only way to gain it now is through Jesus Christ.
3. Rejoice: If you have Christ as your Savior, you have true happiness because you have that which can never be taken away: forgiveness of all sins, the security of a glorious future, the present comfort of a loving Lord, and the indwelling presence of the Holy Spirit. Meditate on Christ’s work and love for you today. Grow in your relationship with Jesus, rest in what he has done for you, and serve him with joy.
