BCL Grow: Christ-Confidence — John 4:10
John 4:10 (Redemption)
Jesus answered her, “If you knew the gift of God, and who it is that is saying to you, ‘Give me a drink,’ you would have asked him, and he would have given you living water.” — John 4:10
“Before we can learn the sufficiency of God’s grace, we must learn the insufficiency of ourselves. As I have said, the more we see our sinfulness, the more we appreciate grace in its basic meaning of God’s undeserved favor.” — Jerry Bridges., Transforming Grace: Living Confidently in God’s Unfailing Love, p. 174.
Steps to Take
1. Consider: How do you view your own merits before God? Are you working to try to earn heaven and God’s favor?
2. Remember: World religions encourage you to work to earn a reward either in this life or the next. The Bible says that our works will not save us. Only Jesus, the God-man, perfectly fulfilled God’s law and was the perfect once-for-all sacrifice for sin. Your life now and in the future are secured by Christ’s body and blood alone. The living water that Jesus grants is only found in him and nurtures our life for eternity.
3. Rejoice: Rejoice that you don’t need to earn God’s favor and blessing. God loves you because of his Son and that will not change. Since you have the gift of Christ’s living water, you can rejoice and live a life pleasing to God, always grateful for his secure love.
