The Beautiful Christian Life and you

The writers of BCL are so happy to welcome you to our website where we seek to celebrate and share the wholistic beauty of the Christian life! The fundamental purpose of Beautiful Christian Life is twofold:

  • First, we want to share with you who Jesus is, what he has done, and why his life matters for you.
  • Second, we hope to encourage you to live beautifully in light of your salvation in Jesus, both to love God and your neighbor and to be a testimony to the world of God's grace in Christ.

Here we explore the following six aspects of the beautiful Christian life:

LIFE: We have many callings in life that we pursue at home, work, church, and in our communities to God's glory. The Christian life is one of dying to the old self and living unto God, and all believers face various challenges and have unique opportunities to grow, serve, and rejoice each day as the Holy Spirit works in their lives to conform them to the image of Christ.

LOVE: Our existence is primarily one of relationship. Our first and most important relationship is with God our Creator. We also have relationships with our fellow creaturesboth human beings and animals—and the responsibility to care for the creation God has made around us. The sacrificial love we show for God and our neighbor not only honors God but is also a testimony to the world of the new life and hope we have in Christ.

FAITH: We need to understand why we can only be right with God in Jesus Christ, and what that means for how we live.

HOPE: While both Christians and non-Christians experience adversity of varying magnitude in this world, Christians have hope in their sufferings, because Jesus is with them always by the power of the Holy Spirit as they grow in endurance and godly character (Rom. 5:3-5). The day will come when evil is destroyed, God will dwell with his people, and "death shall be no more" (Rev. 21:4).

SERVE: God made us to glorify him, and we honor him when we love and serve others with the love God has poured into our hearts. Christians should always seek to comfort those who are hurting and alleviate their burdens out of joy-filled thanksgiving for Christ's finished, redemptive work on their behalf.

MAKE: While God created the world ex nihilo (out of nothing), as his image-bearers we live and work with the created things God has given us in all our vocations and avocations. We don't need to cast off all material goods to be more godly. God has placed us in a material world, and we honor him when we use what he has given us responsibly, creatively, and joyfully.

Our Theological Content: With all the Christian resources available at the click of a finger, BCL recognizes that it can be overwhelming to wade through it all to find trustworthy teaching on the Christian faith. BCL is committed to providing you with vetted, sound theological content in order to faithfully communicate to you the great truths of Christianity.

BCL upholds resolutely the Five Solas of the Protestant Reformation:

  • Sola Fide, by faith alone
  • Sola Scriptura, by Scripture alone
  • Solus Christus, through Christ alone
  • Sola Gratia, by grace alone
  • Soli Deo Gloria, glory to God alone

We also strive to share edifying theological and lifestyle content from a variety of outside sources. The posting of any article, quote, citation, or recommended resource is not an indication that BCL endorses or approves of every theological/doctrinal/moral position held by a featured or referenced author, organization, or resource.

In our GROW section, we provide lists of recommended books and Bible studies to help ground you in the glorious truths of the Christian faith and equip you to share your hope with others. In these lists, BCL tries to feature helpful resources with which you may not already be acquainted, while still including some of the great classic Christian books that have encouraged believers in their faith over the centuries. BCL rotates the recommended resources on a regular basis to keep the lists compact for ease of use; thus, there are many outstanding resources that may not appear on our GROW lists at a given point in time. We welcome your suggestions so that we can strive to provide the best available content for our readers. Please check back periodically to see if your favorite resource is featured!

Come join us as we explore together what God is doing in the world and how to live beautifully in light of his mercies in Jesus.

Warmly,

Le Ann Trees, Managing Editor
